AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday dismissed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s gesture of sending a chadar to the Ajmer Sharif Dargah, which was offered by Union Minister for Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju. Owaisi argued that such acts will not bring any change, pointing to the ongoing legal challenges by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Sangh Parivar groups across the country. These groups have been pushing for the excavation of dargahs and mosques, Owaisi claimed.
He said, “BJP, Sangh Parivar, and their affiliates are going to court, demanding the digging up of dargahs and mosques, declaring that some places are not mosques or dargahs. If the Prime Minister truly wants, this can all stop. For the past ten years, under BJP rule with Modi as PM, there has been conflict over more than seven mosques and dargahs in Uttar Pradesh, where BJP governs and where the Prime Minister is an MP. A chadar won’t make any difference.”
On another matter, Owaisi criticized the government’s response to China’s actions in Ladakh, claiming, “The centre is afraid of China and is more interested in receiving investments from them.”
Addressing recent violence in Sambhal, Owaisi accused local authorities of targeting a specific community. “The administration there is openly suppressing a particular group. Justice must be ensured, not oppression. Are there any permits for the establishment of a police check post?” he asked.
Earlier, Kiren Rijiju had offered the chadar at Ajmer Sharif Dargah on behalf of PM Modi. Speaking to reporters, Rijiju expressed his gratitude, stating, “We are fortunate to bring the chadar on behalf of PM Modi. He sent a message of brotherhood and peace, and we hope to work for societal harmony and world peace.”
On Friday, Rijiju had also visited the Nizamuddin Aulia Dargah in Delhi, offering prayers and delivering Modi’s message of unity and peace.
PM Modi had handed over the chadar to Rijiju on Thursday, marking the Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, the revered 13th-century Sufi saint.
